چکیده
In response to an impasse, articulated in the late 1980s, cognitive capacities of ordinary people assumed central place contemporary critical social theory. The participants’ perspective gained precedence over scientific standards branded as external. notion cognition, however, went unchallenged. On this reading, what clashes unequal structures is skilful coping, rather than representations normative standards. approach may overcome dilemma both impact possible transcendence structures, although it cannot ultimately replace critique.

Towards an Object Oriented Ambient Computing Model
As creative creatures, people like to change and customise their environments. In the computing world, this has led to a growing demand for people to be able to customise their ‘electronic spaces such personal computers and mobile phones’. In this work-in-progress paper, we argue that this reasoning can also be applied to AmI (Ambient Intelligence) Environment. However, existing computational m...
متن کاملModel Based Critique of Justifications for Action
Justifications for actions can typically be critiqued on a number of grounds. Critiques of such justifications can be structured using an argumentation scheme for practical reasoning and associated critical questions. The form that the critiques can take in a computational system, however, depends crucially on the semantic underpinnings of the scheme. We describe a semantic model which, we argu...
متن کاملTowards an Object-Oriented Language for Cognitive Modeling
This paper describes work towards an object-oriented language for cognitive modeling. Existing modeling languages (such as C, LISP and Prolog) tend to be far removed from the techniques employed by psychologists in developing their theories. In addition, they encourage the confusion of implementation detail necessary for computational completeness with theoretically motivated aspects. The langu...
متن کاملCognitive Critique
Edward Tolman’s ideas on cognition and animal behavior have broadly influenced modern cognitive science. His principle contribution, the cognitive map, has provided deep insights into how animals represent information about the world and how these representations inform behavior. Although a variety of modern theories share the same title, they represent ideas far different than what Tolman prop...
متن کاملCognitive Critique
Traditionally, a sharp distinction was made between conscious perception of elapsed time, considered a key attribute of cognition, and automatic time processes involving basic sensory and motor functions. Recently, however, this dichotomous view has been challenged on the ground that time perception and timed actions share very similar features, at least for events lasting less than a second. F...
